Uh. Hullo. This is Arthur Kirkland. Please leave a message. Or text. Or whatever...

[And...she will. Don't worry, England. She's just going to tell you a story.]

he hangs up his apron and logs out of the system, already seeing that Rei is in the store promptly at six, as she said she would be. so he goes over to her]
Good evening. I hope you weren't waiting long.
[action]
[She dips her head and gestures towards the exit, wandering outside without really waiting too long.]
Like I said I know a nice restaurant, so let's go before the dinner rush begins in earnest, okay?

Sounds good to me.

I found this place the other day, the CERES Bulldog. I thought you might like it.

[And it's annoying. But, once they're seated and have food ordered...]
I felt I owed you an explanation for the other day.

once the waiter is gone and Rei has spoken, he shrugs in a noncommittal manner] I figured you were doing what needed to be done.

[is he... is he about to hear an origin story? this is so exciting!]

[A deep breath.]
First, I need to you to understand that no matter how outlandish it might seem, it's true. And I need to ask you something. Magic and Reincarnation. Do you understand those, at least as concepts?
no subject
My dear, you are speaking to one of the most magical nations in the world. [not to mention one of the most romantic, but that's a secret] Not only do I understand those concepts, but I believe in them. And I will believe what you say, even if you insist on pulling my leg.
no subject
Very well then.
[With a nod and a half smile...she goes on.]
Then, would you believe I am not not human? At least, not entirely.

[A sip of tea.]
Five hundred thousand years ago, essentially, is where it starts. Earth was around, but it was different than now, from what I know. No nations or anything. It was ruled over by a prince, and each other planet in the solar system had life as well. As well as Earth's moon. It was called the Silver Millennium, and the other planets and the moon were united under the leadership of the Moon Kingdom's queen, a wise and powerful woman named Serenity. This kingdom's people were magical, and immortal. And they largely kept their distance from the people of Earth, who were younger and not quite so long lived.
[She's aware this might sound a bit like a fairy tale. That's why she's telling it this way.]

England is settled back in his seat with his own cuppa, already getting into the story as Rei describes. he is so into stuff like this, so to think it actually happened in this girl's world is incredible]

Each planet had it's own princess. And...eventually, those princesses were all sent to stay on the moon to be guardians for Princess Serenity, the daughter of the queen. They all became close, and assignments were divvied up by strength. Mercury, Venus, Mars and Jupiter all stayed with the Moon, while Neptune, Uranus, Saturn and Pluto stayed on the edge of the Solar System to guard from outside threats.
For a long, long time, it was a paradise, and all the princesses became close friends, some even more so. But that, as with all stories...didn't last.

If the princess guardians had their own planets to rule over, why were they chosen to protect the Moon Princess? Didn't she have royal bodyguards?

So she needed other princesses to look after her? Seems a little counter-productive, if you ask me. [a sip of tea]

[Bombshell!]

You said the queen's name was Serenity... So the princess and queen had the same name? [not that that was uncommon. how many Queen Elizabeths were there? how many kings passed on their names to their sons? were he any lesser man, he might have done the whole chinhands thing. but England is proper! he sits up straight, attentive]
